The laptop boasts a backlit keyboard, a full HD 120 Hz display, a sizable 1TB SSD, and all of these features. The cooling system is really effective, and key rollover and battery life are also outstanding. Overall, the Asus ROG FX503 is a pricey gaming laptop that delivers good performance.

It includes a 1TB SSD hard disc and an Intel Core i7 CPU in 7th generation shopping mode. Additionally, it is supported by an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti in shopping mode. The laptop will undoubtedly compete in terms of graphics performance in gaming.

ASUS FX503 Gaming Laptop Review

The ASUS FX503 is the laptop that we will be evaluating today. In the middle of the swarm of gaming laptops ASUS has recently released, particularly in their ROG and Strix lines, ASUS pulled in a sneaky one with the FX503. Why is this laptop referred to as a stealthy one? That is true, after all. The FX503 has the appearance of a traditional, modest laptop designed for usage in an office environment. It advertises itself as anything other than a mid-range gaming laptop, which is what it actually is. The FX503 actually gives you a bit of both worlds. Well, nearly. Let’s delve further to learn more about the ASUS FX503.

Build and Aesthetics

The FX503 is a rather compact laptop considering its size, with a maximum thickness of 2.4 centimetres when the lid is closed. That is still rather decent, though a touch pricier than ASUS’ superb Zephyrus laptop. Most small-sized backpacks will easily fit the FX503. As it just weighs 2.5kg, it is light and portable. That is rather decent by the standards of a gaming laptop.

Despite the fact that the FX503 isn’t officially a ROG product, the FX504’s colour scheme is black with red accents, in keeping with the ROG logo. The laptop’s fundamental design and chassis are quite similar to the Strix GL503 gaming laptop. The body’s brushing pattern, the power key, and the lack of ROG-specific customizable keys are the main variations. Given that the FX503 is less expensive than the Strix, we consider the form factor to be a value-added feature.

When it comes to design and construction, the rear panel is kept simple with a lot of understatement. The letter “X” is formed by four indented lines. The lid has a black, straight-brushed aluminium design. As we can see from their previous models, ASUS has grown pretty fond of this style. The power, standby, and hard drive LEDs are visible at the bottom with the lid closed. I like ASUS’s clever move to move the LED signals from the sides to the top. This results in a more user-friendly laptop experience. We appreciate that ASUS chose a design that doesn’t draw a lot of fingerprints.

Display

You are met with a 15.6″ 1080p TN display when you open the lid. On this device, ASUS opted for thick bezels. It’s unfortunate that tiny bezels are only available on mid-range and higher-end laptops, and because the FX503 is a low-cost model, you will have to make due without them. The screen can refresh at a rate of 60Hz. There is no use in using GSYNC or 144 frames per second because the hardware is incapable of supporting those speeds. The anti-glare screen is matte. The hues are vivid and strongly saturated. The display didn’t specifically cause us any issues, even in direct sunlight.

Keyboard and Touchpad

Keyboard and Touchpad

The FX503’s keyboard is an incredible delight to use. With traditional ASUS Red LEDs, it is backlit. We would have loved more clarity and visibility from the backlight. The lighting is erratic, and light seeps between the crevices of the keys. Even in complete darkness, you will be able to distinguish between the different keys. The smoothness of the keyboard was praised by everyone at the iLLOffice. Everyone wanted to utilise it for their article authoring at some time. The FX503 is one of the few keyboards that genuinely feels better than the ones on Macbooks.

But things differ when it comes to game performance. Even greater tactile sensation from the keyboard is something we would have enjoyed. Regardless, the distance between keys is good. It would have been fantastic if there had been more tactile keys. For a more “gamey” vibe, ASUS highlighted the WASD keys. To prevent typos, the arrow keys are separated from the rest of the keyboard.

The touchpad works fine. Just that. Just fine. The ASUS FX503 laptop should obviously be used with a specialised mouse because it is by no means comparable to Macbooks. The touchpad may easily handle light browsing tasks. It allows multi-touch movements and is easy on the finger. You don’t need to use a lot of force to make the clicks feel good. Though occasionally we thought it was a bit uncomfortable to use the touchpad extensively while typing, we would have preferred a better placement for the touchpad.

Audio

The FX503 is a direct outcome of ASUS’s continued improvement in speaker quality. The laptop includes speakers that provide a powerful sound. At all levels, they deliver balanced sound output. High levels don’t cause the music to crackle, and low volumes don’t obscure the subtleties. They still cannot serve as a substitute for quality speakers or headphones, but they can suffice for casual YouTube viewing. As opposed to ROG laptops, ASUS’ FX503 uses generic sound drivers and speakers because there isn’t a specific application for sound modes.

Battery Life

Our expectations for the battery were low given the i7 CPU and GTX 1050Ti graphics card. It is a 4-cell, 64Wh battery. In today’s day and age, 3–4 hours of battery backup on typical use is not a high grade. We can only conclude that performance has a cost.

Pros:

  • The laptop contains a 1TB SSD, which is unusual for a device in this price range.
  • Due to this, laptops are more effective than traditional hard drives.
  • The Asus ROG Zephyrus is a fantastic gaming laptop that is also quite inexpensive.
  • The laptop has a matte surface that is beautiful and resists fingerprints.
  • The lighting and nicely spaced keys on the keyboard make it simpler for you to write on.

Cons:

  • The other is that it has a 1TB SSD as standard equipment. Those gamers who need extra storage capacity may have issues as a result.
  • If you plan to play for an extended period of time, you’ll need to plug this laptop in because the battery life isn’t very excellent.

Price

The pricing of the Asus ROG FX503 is now approximately $1,499, which is a bit expensive for a gaming laptop.
